Once each year, Artwalk produces a weekend long festival celebrating the tangible development of our culture district, featuring Arts and Environment.
The event, currently being organized for the 15th year, has become a major attraction with over 25,000 visitors last year. The streets of downtown will be lined with hundreds of artists, crafts people, food vendors, live performances, a children’s village and an environmental festival. The weekend event adds to the growing success of Sarnia’s Downtown, with merchants reporting many new customers and record sales.
Artwalk encourages artists to tidy vacant downtown properties in exchange for use as temporary galleries and installation spaces. The result is a full and active downtown. This enables artists to display their work in venues transcending traditional gallery settings. In addition, they have the opportunity to interact more directly with the public.
An environmental festival helps to strengthen our community through the promotion of healthy living and environmental stewardship as part of our everyday lives. Artists and environmentalists are brought together to develop working partnerships and to encourage creativity and ecological awareness in seeking sustainable solutions. Health and wellness booths will also be added to the environmental area.
With the help of dedicated volunteers and cooperation from the community, we are fulfilling our purpose of enriching Sarnia-Lambton, by encouraging and inspiring the development of Sarnia-Lambton’s Culture District.
